Hyderabad: After a long, agonizing wait, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar finally eclipsed the 17000-run mark during the fifth ODI against Australia at Hyderabad.
The packed crowd at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium went berserk as the maestro glanced Ben Hilfenhaus for a single to score his 17000th run in ODI cricket.
Sachin, who was also the first batsman to complete 10,000 runs, is not only the highest ever run getter in ODIs but also has the maximum number of ODI centuries (44) to his credit.
In Tests, again he is the highest run-getter with 12, 777 runs to his kitty besides scoring the maximum number of tons (42).
Sanath Jayasuriya is second on the ODI top-scorers’ list with 13,377 runs while Aussie captain Ricky Ponting is way behind and still has a lot of catching up to do.
Of his 44, 32 hundreds have resulted in Indian victories. He also holds the record for scoring most number of centuries in tournament finals where India have won all the finals when he has made a ton.
