| Ban on Pre-Paid Connections Temporary: Abdullah | | | Early Times Report Srinagar | Nov 06, 2009 Defending the Centre's decision to ban pre-paid mobile connections in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Minister for New and Renewable energy Farooq Abdullah today said the ban is temporary and will not last long."The decision to ban the pre-paid moble connections was taken under compulsion to check the misuse of the cell phones as a large number of the users have got the connections on other names and addresses," Abdullah, who is the president of ruling National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir, told reporters here. However, he said the ban is temporary and will not last long. "We want the users to come forward and register their connections afresh," he said. He said the Centre has full faith in the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the decision was taken for the safety of the people.About the Services skipping a match against Jammu and Kashmir in Srinagar for security reasons on November 3, Abdullah who also heads the J and K Cricket Association, lauded the Centre for taking a strong note of it."The response of the Centre was great. The decision was taken by a junior officer without taking into confidence the higher officers. The Defence minister, the Army Chief and even the corps commander was not aware of the decision of services not to visit the valley for the match," he said. However, he said the "wrong decision" of Services not to play in Srinagar was in fact a setback and can be termed as "unfortunate and tragic".Expressing hope that such things will not happen in future, Abdullah said he is looking forward to the next Ranji trophy match scheduled to be played here next week. Claiming that the situation in the valley is normal, he said there is nothing to worry about. "The Centre is also aware about the change in the situation in the state. This was evident as the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi addressed a public meeting at Anantnag in South Kashmir recently without the bullet-proof glass," he said.
