| Gupta assails Chidambaram, Farooq’s statement | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 7- Assailing statement of the Union Home Minister and President J&K National Conference Dr. Farooq Abdullah urging Indian to ‘shed prejudices against Kashmiris’, BJP legislators party leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has said that this sounds that Dr. Farooq sees that Kashmiris are not Indians but a different lot.
Sharply reacting over the recent statements of Dr. Farooq, Prof. Gupta observed that it is not new phenomena that the persons like Dr. Farooq and some other Kashmiri leaders get Islamic in exploiting their religion in the Valley but become secular when they come down to Jammu areas and demonstrate as big nationalists after reaching at New Delhi and other parts of the country.
He said the fact remains that what sacrifices the Indians including the nationalists of this State have made for the cause of Kashmir, it is unparallel, he added and pointed out thousands of brave soldiers have sacrificed their lives to defend Jammu and Kashmir as part of the country and huge sums have been doled even at the cost of crores of the poor from Indian exchequer in the attempts to appease certain leaders of Kashmir and get ameliorated the lot of the people of this State. It is different aspect that much of the Indian funds have been swindled and misused by the men in power, he alleged and pointed out that during all these years none else was in authority but the leaders of the National Conference and Congress or angry men of these two parties. They stand guilty if anything has gone wrong.
The BJP leader asserted that out bursts of Farooq or even of his father, late Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah, and some others against India were not new as they have been exploiting their religion and misleading Kashmiris to cover up their own failures. The BJP leader pointed out promises made during their electioneering by the leaders of the National Conference and that of the Congress to provide at least one job to each household and subsistence allowance to each unemployed proved a hoax. Almost a year has elapsed but this Government has failed to evolve even an employment policy, not to speak of implementing their election promises.
Similar is the position in all other fields and as the people are getting restive, the leaders of the ruling alliance have begun raising emotive slogans just to hoodwink the public opinion divert their attention from the real issues of soaring prices, paucity of drinking water, electricity, awful conditions of health care centers, sad situation of the educational institutions and so many other fields adding to the problems of the masses, he added.
