| Darbar move turns Srinagar-Jammu highway one-way | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 7: Only one-way traffic was allowed on 300-km- long Srinagar-Jammu national highway today for smooth movement of vehicles carrying officials moving to the winter capital as part of annual winter Darbar move. It has also been decided to close one of the two tubes of Jahawar tunnel from Monday onwards for repair and maintenance. Officials said only one-way traffic from Srinagar to Jammu was allowed today. There would be one-way traffic tomorrow (Sunday) as well to allow free movement of vehicles carrying state government officials, belonging to Kashmir division as they move to the winter capital of Jammu. The Srinagar offices, including civil secretariat, the virtual seat of the Jammu and Kashmir government, were closed on October 30 and 31 and will reopen at Jammu onMonday (November 9). The employees, belonging to Jammu region, have already left for their homes on October 31 and November 1 after the authorities imposed similar restrictions on traffic movement on the highway. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic, national highway, Ramban, it has been decided to close Eastern tube of the tunnel for traffic on Monday for repair purpose. However, the Western tube will continue to function, he said. He appealed to the general public to cooperate with traffic police for effective traffic regulation on either side of Jawahar Tunnel during the period of repair of eastern tube.
