| Physician heal thyself’: Shiv Sena cries foul | | | SUMIT SHARMA JAMMU, NOV 7: The noble profession of doctors is fast lapsing to abysmal corrupt depths. Unfortunate incidents of playing with precious lives of the unsuspecting patients for the sake of money have surfaced time and again. To put curb this committees were framed and probes ordered but seldom has any doctor been booked though such incidents now recur at a faster rate. Only today Principal of the GMC Hospital, Dr Rajinder Singh, ordered constitution of a committee to inquire into the matter of Dr Ashutosh Sharma who allegedly demanded and accepted Rs 7,000 from a cancer patient in the hospital. The incident of such blatant corruption is reported from GMC hospital. A cancer patient Bua Dita was asked by Dr Ashutosh, a radiotherapist, to pay Rs 7,000 for his treatment and free medicines. The poor person somehow managed to assort the amount just to save life and the sum was merrily pockete by the doctor. The harassment of the cancer patient did not end here as the patient in a Private Clinic in Krishna Nagar was asked to cough up more. The matter reached Hindustan Shiv Sena Balthakray president Ashok Gupta who companied with other Sena activists ghearoed the Principal of GMC hospital and lodged complaint with him. Principal sensing gravity of the situation ordered constitution of a four-member committee led by Dr Yudhvir to inquire into the incident. “On the complaint of Shiv Sena activists I ordered constitution of a committee to hold inquiry”, Dr Rajinder Singh said. Another incident occurred when Naresh Kumar of RS Pura died due to brain hemorrhage though Rs 25000 unjustifiably demanded for his treatment was donated by former Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad. The report of the committee constituted to probe into the incident is also gathering dust amid a heap of files. Meanwhile, the serious nature the case now taken up by Shiv Sena leader is assuming fears about intensification of Sena agitation stares the administration in the face. When the matter was brought to the notice of Minister for Medical and Higher Education R.S Chib, he assured that once he returns back to Jammu from his Banglore visit, stern action would be taken and whosoever found guilty of corruption would not be spared. Dr. Ashutosh when contacted for clarifying the incident said that he is not having any information about the developments and vehemently rejected the alleg ation
