| J&K to get additional quota of fertilizers within next 2 days | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 8-Dening shortage fertilizers in the state, the Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir today said that additional quota of fertilizers will reach Jammu and Kashmir within next two days. He said that the state had sufficient stocks of fertilizers and announced that wherever reports of shortages were received additional supply was to be made available. Mir said that the state Government still procure additional supply and the state would be flooded with fertilizer stocks within next two days. He said that reports had revealed that fertilizer shortage had been registered in some isolated pockets not because of non- availability but because of some delay in the transshipment of the fertilizers from one place to the other. He said that he had sought reports from the field staff and their report had revealed that there was no shortage. The Minister stated that it was because of increase in the fertilizer consumption that the food grain production had increased in Jammu and Kashmir despite decrease in the area under agricultural practices. Explaining it he said that the fertilizer consumption in the state had increased from 60 kgs per hectare in 1981-82 to 127 kgs per hectare in 2008-2009.He added the overall distribution level too has increased from 4154 metric tons in 1980 to 12099 metric tons in 2008-2009. He said under the guidance of experts organic farming was being promoted and 400 units have been established for converting biodegradable agriculture waste into wealth through vermin composing.
