| Govt opens shop in Jammu today | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 9: In the bedecked winter capital city, the civil secretariat is reopening here tomorrow on its biennial move amidst a heavy security arrangement for keeping the protesters away from the routes leading and surroundings of the civil secretariat. Breaking from the customary practice of the previous years, no formal orders of restrictions on processions were issued by the local district magistrate even as the Police and paramilitary forces on duty have been asked to keep the protesters away. The employees of the state road transport corporation, home guards, agriculture graduates and some organizations of Gujjars and Bakerwals have already announced to march towards civil secretariat and Raj Bhawan on the opening of government offices here tomorrow. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will inspect a guard of honour and take the customary salute on reopening of civil secretariat in Jammu. Since Omar took over as Chief Minister in January this year this is first move of the secretariat in Jammu. Though the usual regional discrimination protests are missing this time but several organizations of employees have announced to take processions to the civil secretariat. Over 600 employees of the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC), who reached here from Kashmir yesterday, joined their colleagues in protests here today. Amid anti-government slogans Hundreds of employees from both the regions, however, this morning staged a massive protest at Head Office here. ‘’A command council meeting today will decide the further course of action,’’ one of the leaders of the Union told reporters adding that they have also planned to march and gherao Civil Secretariat as offices are scheduled to re-open on November 9 . ‘’Over two months have passed to the agitation of the employees but government has not positively responded to our demands,’’ the protestors said. The SRTC employees have been protesting since August 26 seeking the release of six months pending salaries and regularisation of the consolidated workers besides benefits under Sixth Pay Commission.
