| MEHBOOBA MUFTI CHANTS SELF-RULE | | RIDICULEs BJP, NC FOR LAUNCHING HATE CAMPAIGN AGAINST PDP | |
Jammu, October 4 : The Peoples Democratic Party Chief Ms Mehbooba Mufti ridiculed those who have launched a vilification campaign against her partys’ demand for self-rule in Jammu and Kashmir.
“When even the Prime Minister has agreed to hold discussion on the idea of self-rule what business our critics have to dub us for parroting Pakistan President General Pervez Mushraffs idea” , she said at a public rally organized by PDP at Bisnah on Wednesday.
Ms Mehbooba had a sharp dig at the BJP, National Conference when she referred to the BJP’s opposition to self-rule and the National Conference favouring restoration of Autonomy.
She said, even being a National party the Congress pursued the peace process for which the erstwhile BJP lead NDA government had invited General Musharaaf to Agra and earlier the then Prime Minister boarded peace bus to Lahore.
She said, PDP leadership has started not only discussing but also explaining the idea of self rule to the people at public rallies and conventions and against this the National Conference President Omar Abdullah went to Pakistan for discussing restoration of greater Autonomy with President Gen Musharraf without taking people f Jammu and Kashmir in confidence.
The Finance Minister Tariq Hamid Qarra said that, “we will not deviate from our stand on self-rule.The more the idea is criticized by our political foes the more will be the validity of self-rule for debate and discussion.
Referring to the ambiguous stand having been taken by the National conference from time to time Ms Mehbooba Mudti said that when her father Mufti Mohd Sayeed was the PCC President the National Conference leadership used to dub him a pro-Delhi leader.And the same NC leadership had started calling Mufti Sahib as a pro Pakistani.
She asked ,” what harm is there if self –rule is established in Jammu and Kashmir?”
She said by giving self-rule to Jammu and Kashmir the PDP wants to strengthen the regional federalism and states integration with India. She said, what the successive National Conference governments failed to give to people of Jammu,Kashmir and Ladakh regions the PDP wanted to ensure growth of genuine regional federalism.
She said the PDP was opposed to the trifurcation of the state which was an integral part of India and the implementation of self-rule will silence those , including BJP that demand separate state hood for Jammu. Referring to demilitarization and issue of power shortage, she said local youth facing unemployment should be recruited in the state police to manage the internal situation. We never demanded that troops deployed on the border or along the line of control should be called back. Our party only demand security forces houses inside school, colleges and other residential buildings should be moved back to ease the tension,she elaborated.
Demanding appropriate compensation from the centre for sharing water resources, she said Jammu and Kashmir is facing acute power shortage and should be duly compensated to address the grim power scenario.
