| NSUI to hold conventions at block, district levels | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 9- To make National Students Union of India (NSUI) a vibrant force of youth the state NSUI has decided to organize one day convention at all block and district level within next six months. Revealing this at a press conference here today the State President NSUI, Rashid Choudhary said that in the first phase conventions would be held in 47 blocks of ten districts of Jammu province and in the second phase these conventions would be held in the Valley in March-April next. After the completion of the both phases a grand state convention would be organized at Jammu, in which NSUI delegates from across the state would deliberate upon the burning issues relating to the youth and the students community. The conventions would be organized under the supervision of respective block and district presidents in co-ordination with the state incharges, he added. He said the objective of organizing such conventions is to strengthen the organization at grass root level and to provide a platform to the youth of state to put their point of view. I would be a step towards the training of second line leadership of the organization. During these conventions achievements, programs and policies of UPA Government would be highlighted so that general public can be sensitized about the opportunities extended by the UPA Government. He further revealed that NSUI would engage some intellectuals and professionals of high caliber to address the NSUI activists on various social, political, national and scientific issues. This would make the students more aware of their rights and responsibilities towards the society and the country. Choudhary further said that the NSUI leaders of the College, Block and District level who would perform well in the conventions and have worked hard would be honoured and rewarded for their work. He also announced that the three best college presidents, ten best block president awards and five best district presidents’ awards would be given. The award will constitute a memento, a certificate and Rs. 2000 cash each. The award will be given on the basis of their performance assessed by the state executive committee of NSUI. He appealed to the students of the state to participate in large number in the convention to make the student movement a big success Expressing his displeasure over the existing education policy he said NSUI would give priority to the discussion on the educational reform during the convention. He urged the government to constitute an educational reform commission to formulate a comprehensive educational policy keeping in view the local needs and talent. He also demanded an increase in the educational allocations in the forthcoming budget of the state. Others present on the occasion were Charanjeet Singh State General Secretary, Arjun Singh Pathania State General Secretary, Rajveer Singh Manhas Jammu University President, Bhageshwar Khajuria State Executive member, Feroz Khan State Executive member, Ashu Sharma District President Jammu Rural, Uttam Mangotra District President Jammu and Vikas Khajuria Jammu City President and Sushant Gupta State General Secretary.
