| Bank employees’ federation stage protest dharna against price hike | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 10- Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation staged protest Dharna outside Divisional Commissioner Office here today demanding immediate action by the Government against the alarming price rise. The employees were protesting huge job losses, large scale investments in public sector units and rampant violation of labour laws and demanding adequate social security for unorganized workers. They said that day by day the prices of all essential commodities are going up steeply and the consumer price index for July and August, 2009 has gone up to 3652 and 3697 points which means that from November, 2009, DA will go up by at least 57 slabs i.e. an increase of at least 10% on our Basic Pay. They asked the Government to arrest this alarming price rise and make essential commodities available at fair prices shops running under Public Distribution System, take proactive and concrete measures to protect the jobs of workers in recession stricken sectors, stop disinvestments of PSUs & sale of national properties to private hands. The employees also demanded strict enforcement of labour laws without exception or exemption and stringent punitive measures for violation of labour laws by employers and recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour to set up National Fund to be implemented.
