| Roads decked up for VIPs, left potholed for commoners | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov10- While the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah may have patted the back of road construction agencies for appreciating the quality of road network especially in Jammu but in reality common residents in the state’s winter capital are still bearing the brunt of ongoing construction activity and facing many hardships due to potholed roads. Starting from the all important Residency road the link between Raghunath Mandir and Residency Road is still incomplete and the traffic is being diverted from the road leading towards Gurudwara Sunder Singh road causing long traffic snarls at peak hours. The condition of Gujjar Nagar road linking highly fortified area of the city where majority of ministerial bungalows are located is no different and in the absence of completion of work cosmetic surgery has been done by the concerned agency to save its skin. Similarly work on the link road connecting Jogi Gate with the old city continues to present a shabby look despite several deadlines fixed for its completion. A careful study of the completed road network reveales that lot of efforts have been made by the road construction agencies to selectively complete the work on important links used by the senior officers and council of ministers on daily basis and postponing the work on the other important links frequented by local residents in large numbers. One such example is road link between Rehari Chungi and Amphalla crossing. The condition of the several other roads across the city remains the same even after the opening of the durbar move offices. At several places patch up work is being done to cover the potholed roads much to the discomfiture of hapless residents. Official sources, however, maintain that work is going on at several locations to meet the proposed deadline with renewed emphasis on quality construction work.
