Early Times Report
Srinagar: Former finance and power minister, Babu Singh, Tuesday asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to clear “confusion” on maintaining the claim of Jammu and Kashmir as integral part of the India.
The former congressmen also suggested federation of both parts of Jammu and Kashmir as solution to “historical issue”.
“Prime Minister Manmohan Singh must exhibit positive approach towards resolving the dispute of Jammu and Kashmir and should clear confusion over his assertion that the state is an integral part of India,” Babu Singh, told Press Bureau of India.
Babu, who contested unsuccessfully from Kathua constituency as an independent candidate, said that the “dispute” could be resolved only through tripartite talks.
“Present condition cannot let the issue linger for long and it is high time for India, Pakistan and people of Jammu and Kashmir to sit together and find out a way,” he said.
The congress rebel also proposed “autonomous federal state” as solution to what he maintained is a historical issue.
“Autonomous regions could be created within the framework of Jammu and Kashmir under the joint administration of India and Pakistan. There is no other alternative for the state is multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-lingual,” he said.
“These autonomous regions with their own Assemblies will fulfill the regional aspirations of the people in the State,” he added.
He said that the resolution of Jammu and Kashmir was important for establishing peace in entire south Asia.
“The region continuously poses a threat to South Asia as three nuclear powers including India, Pakistan and China surround it,” he added..
