| Top LeT commander among 2 ultras killed | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 10: Two militants, including a top militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit, were killed by the security forces in an encounter in the mountainous Reasi district official sources here today said. Meanwhile, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) ultra was arrested and a hideout was unearthed by security forces in Kashmir Valley where a police naka party was attacked by militants with automatic weapons overnight, official sources said today. "A joint operation was launched by police, 61 Rashtriya Rifles and the troops of Uniform Force on specific information in Kalwa area of Mahore tehsil about the presence of militants," official sources told. On seeing a patrol party, the militants opened fire which was retaliated, in which a self-styled District Commander of LeT identified as Rafiq alias Noman and another militant Jabrar were gunned down, the sources added. "This is the third killing of a LeT militant in one week in Reasi district, while one militant of the outfit also surrendered before the security forces yesterday,’’ the sources informed. The slain militant Rafiq, was acting as a top commander after the killing of Abu Abdullah alias Romeo 8, the sources said, adding that he was active in Gool, Arnas areas of Reasi district. "One Ak-47, two magazines, three hand grenades, one satellite phone and a radio set were recovered from the encounter site," they said. Reports reaching here from Srinagar said that on a tip-off, police party from Anantnag arrested LeT militant Ashiq Lone alias Setha from the main town. Troops of 35 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint operation at Surasyar in the central Kashmir district of Badgam, following a tip off about a militant hideout. During the operation, a hideout in the house of one Abdul Rashid Mir was unearthed. As many as 49 rounds of ammunition, one AK banet, one detonator, one combination tool were recovered from the hideout. Meanwhile, some militants, travelling in a load carrier, attacked a police naka party with automatic weapons at Fedearpora under police station Panzalla area. There was no report of any loss of life or injury in the incident. Later, the driver was arrested and vehicle was seized, the sources said.
