| Finally, challan presented in Chopra family murder case | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 10: More than three years after leading business tycoon Rajinder Bhushan Chopra and members of his family were killed, the Police today presented case challan in a court of law here after permission from the High Court where a petition from Chopra’s survivors –his two sons –was pending for referring the case to Central Bureau of Investigation. The challan was presented in in the court of Excise Magistrate Jammu Suneet Gupta who, after hearing Chief Prosecuting Officer Pawan Khajuria with senior Prosecuting Officer Anil Jamwal, committed the challan to the Sessions Court with the direction to produce the accused in the Court of Sessions Court. The challan was presented against eight accused who were arrested on different dates in the years 2007 and 2008 u/s 302/396/201 RPC and two accused namely Kiran Pradhi and Sangram Singh who were absconding and arrest warrants issued against them whereas accused Virender Pradhi and Anil Wahi were arrested and released u/s 169 Cr PC as they were not found involved in the case. Sixty eight witnesses are mentioned in the challan whereas one accused namely Vicky son of Himmat Singh was made as approver in the case. The accused named in the challan include Mahesh, Rushi, Vicky, Nanju, Bhawani Singh, Siknader, Narinder and Dalip all residents of District Goona MP. In the challan it has been submitted that accused Vicky wrote an application from the judicial lock up Central Jail Jammu to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu requesting for recording his statement about the murder. CJM referred this application to City Judge Jammu and accordingly his statement was recorded before the Court of City Judge and thereafter he was made approver in the case. In his statement Vicky stated that accused Sangram and others brought him to Jammu for theft whereas Sangram asked him to stay on the gate of RB Chopra’s House. He further stated that he saw the murder of the daughter of Chopra but did not commit murder of any one. The police in its challan have prayed for issuance of process u/s 512 Cr PC against absconding accused. JNF
