| Painting competition on world diabetes day held | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 12: To create awareness about the diabetes, a painting competition was organized by Janta Diabetes care centre, Talab Tillo and JKFAS here today. The competition was held in connection with the celebrations of world diabetes day failing on November 14. Coincide with the birthday of Dr Feddrick Banting who discovered insulin in 1921 and saved life of millions of diabetes patients. About 16 schools of Jammu took part in it. The painting competition was held on the concepts put forward by Dr. Raj Kumar Sharma to know your disease and live longer, fast food kills fast, optimum calories, lesser the diabetes and insulin a friend in need. Dr. Sharma on the occasion discussed about the various aspects in the management of diabetes and prevents long term complications. This year the emphasis is on treatment of children with diabetes, the number of whom is increasing every year as they need special care and access to proper treatment he said and added “let the children with diabetes to live happily” is the slogan of this year’s diabetes day. He further emphasized that by regular monitoring of blood sugar and consultations with doctor long-term complications like that of heart, kidney, brain eyes and legs which are cause of great morbidity can be checked. The prizes were given to Preeti Salathia, Jasmeet Kour, Harsheem Kour as 1st, 2nd and 3rd and consolation prize distribute among Nandan Dawan and Ria Sharma in junior group. In senior group 1st, 2nd and 3rd were Bhanu Priya, Shriya Sharma and Sihaj Jain and consolation prizes were given to Surinder Singh Jamwal and Prerna Vaid. Suresh Sharma, Secretary JAKFAS thanked the participants and their teachers for making this program a great success. He announced that this competition will be held next year with more and more participation.
