| MIER observes World Diabetes Day | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 12- In connection with the observance of World Diabetes Day MIER in collaboration with Diabetes Care Foundation organized a function at its B.C. Road campus. Dr. Jatinder Singh a renowned Diabetologist, and Dr. Ashok Chaturvedi, President of Diabetes Care Foundation, Dr. Arun K. Gupta, Chairman MIER and Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER being members of the Diabetes Care Foundation participated in the function. More than 250 students of B.Ed and PGDCA actively participated in Poster, Painting and Slogan Competition based on different themes on Diabetes. All the work done by the students was displayed in a form an exhibition for the guests, students and staff of MIER. The best slogans and paintings were identified and the efforts of the winners was highly appreciated and rewarded by the participants and Guests. Dr. Jatinder Singh lauded the efforts of Dr. Arun K. Gupta in promoting the awareness about Diabetes to various sections of the society and thanked him for providing the necessary resources for making such programs a success. While interacting with the students Dr. Jatinder Singh cautioned that reduced physical health and heightened stress has made diabetes a major health challenge for 21st Century. He also cleared the doubts of the students regarding diabetes. He said that in Jammu 60-63% persons (both males and females) are suffering from abdominal obesity which makes them prone to diabetes. Diabetes affects other organs like intestines, peripheral tissues, heart, eyes, kidneys, etc. Dr. Arun K. Gupta, in his address, appreciated the efforts of the organizers and thanked the students who observed this day with a rare degree of preparation, enthusiasm and involvement. He congratulated the winners for showing their best performance. A free camp was conducted by diabetes care foundation experts for testing the Sugar and Blood Pressure Level. In this camp blood pressure test for 150 students and sugar test for 75 Students was conducted. Some of the staff members were also involve in this camp to know their blood sugar and pressure levels.
