| Leh highway reopens for one-way traffic | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 12 : One-way traffic was resumed today on the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway, which was closed on November 9 due to heavy snowfall at different places.
Official sources told that the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the life line to Ladakh region, had cleared the snow on the highway.
However, the road was slippery due to frozen surface following minus temperature during the night.
Only Leh to Srinagar traffic would be allowed, they said, adding vehicles would be allowed to cross the troubled spot on the highway in the afternoon when frozen surface melts. No vehicle from Srinagar would be permitted today.
Sveral dozen vehicles of Srinagar got stranded in Kargil and Drass due to snowfall.
The sourcs said traffic on the highway was closed on November 9, following moderate to heavy snowfall at Sonamarg, Zojila and Drass, the world's coldest place after Siberia. Kargil also received snowfall, the sources said.
It had not been decided to close the highway for winter months, they added.
