| Center approves Rs 9000 Crore highway road projects for J&K | | | ET DESK Jammu, Nov 12: Jammu and Kashmir got a big push towards infrastructure development with the Government today announcing approval of six Highway projects for the border State envisaging an expenditure of Rs 9,377.89 crore.
Of the total eight projects worth Rs 10,883.89 crore cleared by a meeting of Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC), one each of the remaining two projects are to come up in Karnataka and Haryana.
''The 28th PPPAC meeting, chaired by Finance Secretary (Ashok Chawla) met on October 16, 2009, and granted approval to eight projects of Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways. These projects are in three States,'' an official statement said.
The J&K projects include Rs 971 crore scheme for four-laning of Qazigund to Banihal section, Rs 1,987 crore project for strengthening and four-laning of Ramban to Banihal section and Rs 986 crore for rehabilitation and strengthening of four-laning of Udhampur to Ramban section.
Four-laning of Chenani to Nashri section, including a nine km-long tunnel, would come up at a cost of Rs 2,519, whereas rehabilitation, strengthening and four-laning of Jammu-Udhampur section would cost Rs 1,813.79. Stretches of Srinagar-Banihal would cost another Rs 1,100.70.
The Karnataka's project of six-laning of the National Highway 4 from Tumkur to Chitradurga would come at a cost of Rs 839 crore, while four-laning of Yamunanagar-Saha-Burwala-Panchkula section in Haryana would cost Rs 667 crore.
