Malik says more Colleges in offing

Jammu, Nov 13: Minister for Higher Education, Mr. Abdul Gani Malik has stressed on imparting modern education to the students to enable them compete globally. “Knowledge of latest developments in the different fields broaden the knowledge pool of the students and organization of seminars play an important role in this regard,” the Minister said.
Speaking after inaugurating the first ever two-day national seminar on the topic “Bio-Geography and Regional Planning” organized by the Geography department of Post-Graduate (PG) Degree College, Rajouri, Mr. Malik said that geographical and regional considerations need to be incorporated while formulating any kind of plan. He hoped that the knowledge gained during the seminar will go a long way in developing concepts of regional planning as well as incorporating environment concerns in planning among the students, the future planners of the country.
The Minister of State for Power and CA&PD, Mr. Shabir Ahmad Khan was also present on the occasion.
Besides the academicians from across the State, delegates and experts from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Utter Pradesh and Delhi are also participating in the two-day seminar.
Malik, dwelling on the massive infrastructure expansion in the field of higher education in the State, said that several new colleges, polytechnics besides two Central Universities are coming up in the State which will enable the students in the state to get quality education at their doorsteps.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shabir Khan said government has launched various initiatives for modernization of education system so as to transform the educational institutions into organizations churning out professionally skilled human resource. He said dozens of new colleges and Industrial Training Institutes besides other professional institutions are being opened in the far-flung areas of the State to increase the reach of higher education. He said that special thrust is being laid on upgradation of educational infrastructure and recruitment of trained academic staff so that the students get quality education, which is imperative for all round development of the State.
