| No dearth of timber supply for religious places: Altaf | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, November 13- Minister for Forest and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmed asked the Forest Department and state Forest Corporation to arrange the timber supply for C zone depots in valley for next year on 50:50 basis. The directions were given at a high level meeting chaired by him at Srinagar to review the arrangements of timber supply to consumers and firewood supply to mosques for current year. Commissioner Secretary to Government, Forest department, Shant Manu, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Jagdish Keshwan, Chief Conservator of Forests, Kashmir Shafat Ahmad, Managing Director SFC, A. Q. Khan besides other senior officers of department attended the meeting. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests briefing about the arrangements made for the current year informed the Minister that in “A&B” zone depots is 504000 lakh cfts of timber were dumped by ending November 10, against target of 615000 cfts fixed for the financial year. Similarly in “C” zone has been dumped against target of 600000 cfts. Sale of dumped stocks is being carried by side and 358000 cfts were sold till date, the meeting was told. The Minister while expressing satisfaction regarding supply position in A and B zone depots asked Managing Director SFC to ensure completion of targets of timber dumping in C zone depots before end of November.
Minister also reviewed position of timber supplies in Srinagar city. The MD, SFC informed the Minister that 84000 cfts of timber have already been issued to city consumers during current year so far. While taking review of the firewood supplies to mosques, the Minister was informed that this year as per directions given by him early supply of firewood to mosques was ensured and 9100 quintals of firewood have already been issued to 244 mosques till November 10, 2009. The department has a target of arranging and supplying 40000 quintals of firewood to 1125 mosques in city during the year. The Minister was also informed that adequate stocks have been dumped in PC Depot to meet this requirement.
