| JMC seize over 300kgs of polythene carry bags | | |

Jammu, Nov 14: To keep Jammu city clean and free from the menace of polythene carry bags, a campaign has been undertaken jointly by the enforcement wing and health wing of Jammu municipal corporation (JMC) under the supervision of BR Bhagat, Joint Commissioner (A) alongwith health officer, chief enforcement officer and field staff. Team today visited vegetable markets at Indira Chowk, Canal head and Narwal and during the drive about 300kg of polythene carry bags were seized from the vendors and other outlets found selling, using the polythene carry bags which have been banned by the state government since long.
JMC once again appeals to the general public to avoid the use of polythene carry bag and further requested them to co-operate with the corporation to make the Jammu city free from the polythene carry bags. The traders communities were also asked to adopt alternate arrangement for sale of their commodities.
Besides, the drive against the adulteration of milk, the municipal veterinary officer alongwith field staff visited the areas of Talab Tillo, Muthi Camp, Surakha Vihar, Paloura Extn, etc and checked 105 no’s of milk canes in these areas. Out of which 18 no’s of milk canes were lifted and sent to municipal laboratory to check the quality of the milk. A fine of Rs. 3600.00 was also realized from the erring milk vendors on spot.
Workshop on role of educational institution in disaster management held

Jammu, Nov 14: The NSS unit of GGM Science College in collaboration with disaster management centre university of Jammu organized two day workshop on ‘role of educational institution’ in disaster management here today. Director disaster management centre Prof. GM Bhat was the chief guest on the occasion and principal GGM science college, Dr. Sham Lal Gutpa presided over the function.
In his address, Prof. Gupta welcomed emphasized the need to motive the society to work for the welfare of the human kind, while Prof Bhat highlighted the need to create awareness of various disasters both natural and manmade. He said that in order to manage various disasters and hazards and as such institution schools, colleges and university can do a lot in awaring and tackling disasters. Prof. Bhat also called for taking effective measures during earthquake and said both Jammu and Srinagar are in seismic zone. We all need to remain prepared to minimize any loss during disasters.
Dr. Ranbushan Singh coordinator UNDP highlighted the importance of first aid during any kind of disaster and urged upon the volunteers to work in a coordinated an organized manner for effective management of disasters.
Anil Padha, secretary Red Cross Society also addressed the gathering and ensured to extend every type of support to society.
Gohar Hafeez Fani on the occasion appreciated the GGM Science College and its staff and volunteers for organizing the workshop in a very effective manner.
Dr. Rajinder Sharma welcomed the guests Dr. VK Chandan presented vote of thanks, Aushutosh Sharma and Rohit Wali NSS commanders of NSS, GGM Science College alongwith volunteers, Mohd Arif, Vikrant Sharma, Ripu Dhaman Parihar, Ramneek Singh and Vijay Laxmi, coordinated the workshop on both the days.
