| Debates, Rangolis, Memorial Services Mark Nehru Day in J&K | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 14: The 120th birth anniversary of visionary leader and statesman and first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru was today celebrated as Children’s Day across the state. The day was marked with debating competitions and other functions in schools as well as with memorial services at the political level. Paying rich tributes to the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, on his 120th birth anniversary, Minister for School Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayed impressed upon the teaching community to translatetake long cherished dream of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, who was known as Chacha Nehru, of bringing the country at par with advanced countries in the field of education. The Minister was addressing a function at GHSS, Kothibagh Srinagar organized in connection with the birth anniversary of Pt. Nehru here today on Saturday. He was the chief guest on the occasion. Remembering Late Prime Minister, the Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Raman Bhalla, today stressed on adopting the visionary approach of the late leader in transforming the educational institutions of the country into centres fostering overall development of the personality of students. Addressing a series of functions organized to mark the birth anniversary of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru at Government Higher Secondary School, Channi Himmat, Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar and Carmel Convent School, Kunjwani, here today, the Minister said the coalition Government led by Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah is making all out efforts to improve the quality of education in educational institutions of the State, adding that new schools, colleges and universities are being opened to increase the reach of education to every nook and corner of the State. Mr. Bhalla also paid floral tributes to the Late leader, popularly remembered as Chacha Nehru by the children. He also inspected an exhibition on Basohli paintings organized by Mr. Sushil Padha. The Chief Education Officer, Jammu, Mr. Natha Ram, Principal, GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu Prof. Nalini Kohli, Managing Director, Pelican Cables, Mr. B. B. Raina, Music Director, RD and Kishore Fan Club, Mr. Sunil Sharma, teaching faculty and large number of students were present on the occasion. To mark the celebration of Children’s Day big function was organized by Government Higher Secondary School (Girls), Doda. Speaking on the occasion Principal GHSS (Girls) Doda, Mr. Nek Ram Bhagat threw light on the life of the visionary leader and importance of the day .Other faculty members who Mr. Tahir Ashraf Wani, Mr. Tariq Hussain Sheikh, Mr. Shakeeb Ahmed Rather and Ajit Babu Bijyal also spoke on the occasion. Later, a debating competition was also organized in which Miss Hadiya Shahid, Miss Shabeena Banoo and Miss Mahapara Safder were adjudged first, second and third respectively. The Children’s Day was also celebrated in the premises of Government Higher Secondary School boys, Reasi today. Principal, Mr. Madan Mohan Khajuria was the chief guest on the occasion. Students of 10th and 12th class participated in the debate competition and threw light on various aspects of the life of Late Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru who was the first Prime Minister of India. Teacher of the school also spoke on the occasion. Children Day was celebrated in of Government High School, Seri Panditian, Jammu today. Headmaster of the school, Mr. Kulwant Kotwal was the chief guest on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the Headmaster threw light on the life of the visionary leader Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru and urged the students to learn from the life history of the great visionary leader. In order to celebrate birth anniversary of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, a colorful function was organized in the premises of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) for boys, Kathua today. Member Parliament, Doda-Udhampur Parliamentary Constituency, Ch. Lal Singh, who was the chief guest on the occasion, unfurled the National Flag and paid floral tributes to the first Prime Minister. Speaking on the occasion, Ch. Lal Singh appreciated the performance of the Principal of the School in improving the academic standard by undertaking various curricular and co-curricular activities in the school, including celebration of such functions to remember the contribution of great leaders. Children’s Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and fun fare at DBN, Vidya Mandir School here this morning. Principal of the School, Mr Suresh was chief guest on the occasion. A colorful cultural programme was organized wherein young students presented fancy dress, dance, fun zone, poems recitation and other attractive shows. The function commenced with the song ‘Bacche Man Ke Sacche’. The Youth Services & Sports Department, Udhampur today organized a group song competition comprising of patriotic songs in the premises of Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School, Udhampur. The MLA, Udhampur, Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia was the chief guest. Five local schools participated in the group song competition in which GGHSS Udhampur got first position while National Academy Udhampur and Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Udhampur got second and third prizes respectively. The prizes were distributed by the chief guest. Natrant Theatre Group staged children’s play “Mere Hisse Ki Dhoop Kahan Hai’ at Natrang Studio Theatre to mark the occasion of Children’s Day. Speaking on the occasion Natrang Director Balwant Thakur said that the best way to explore the inner possibilities of children is to expose them to theatre. In most of the developed nations theatre is compulsory extra curricular activity for children. He further said that every performance cannot amount to theatre. “Jawaharlal Nehru as the Prime Minister and the supreme leader of the independent India after assassination of Mahatma Gandhi for the first 17 years of independent India laid its foundations in all respect”, observed Balraj Puri in his keynote address at the workshop of the Nehru Study Centre of Jammu University on the occasion of Nehru’s birthday. Prof Kulwant Kour, head of the political Science department presided and Dr Baljit Singh, Director of the Centre also shared the dais with special invitees. Padam Bhushan awardee Balraj Puri said Nehru’s concept of nationalism according to Puri, was of a tolerant creative nationalism which was far more effective in uniting the country than votaries of narrow nationalism could have done. He cited the instance of how Nehru won over people of Kashmir. Pakistan government and Muslim League recognized the right of rulers of the princely states to decide whether to accede to India or Pakistan or remain independent, Nehru insisted that the right belonged to the people. Thus he rejected the claim of Nawab of Junagarh to accede to Pakistan and of Nizam of Hyderabad and Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir to remain independent, he was able to get all the three states acceded to India. Puri referred to Nehru’s knowledge of world history which he used to carve out a place for India in the world which was at that time polarized between soviet and Anglo-America blocks. Rich floral tributes were paid to Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru first Prime Minister of India, on his 120th birth anniversary by the Pradesh Congress party in a memorial ceremony organized at party offices across the state. The main function was held at headquarter Pradesh Congress Committee, Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu. The PCC leaders, DCC, BCC, Ward presidents, Mahila Congress, INTUC, Seva Dal, Workers, Youth and NSUI paid floral tributes to this dynamic leader, who was named a great statesman orator, historian and architect of Modern India. Pandit Dharam Pal Sharma described Pt. Nehru as a great visionary leader who laid the foundation of Modern India. He took over the reigns of the country when there was acute poverty and numerous challenges from various fronts. Because of his able and farsightedness, the country marched ahead in all fields and emerged as one of the strong nations in the World. He asked partymen to follow the ideals of Pt. Nehru and strengthen the Congress party and its principles as a true tributes to him. Mangat Ram Sharma described Pt. Nehru as one of the tallest leaders in the World whose policy of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) was the need of the hour at that time and it gave direction to a new World order in which India played a leading role for peace in the World. Several other speakers threw light on the life of Pt. Nehru and remembered his contribution in the freedom struggle and post independence era and the leading role played by India under his stewardship in the community of nations for which India is known as a messenger of peace in the World. He was a true democrat and firmly believed in secularism, which is the basis of unity in diversity. Pt. Nehru had extreme love for children, so this day is celebrated as “Children Day” and the children used to call him “Chacha Nehru”. Various school of the winter capital celebrated children’s day with full enthusiasm. The schools arranged number of programmes and the speakers on the occasion apprised the students about Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru the first Prime Minister of India and the role played by him during freedom movement along with other leaders of the country. MV international school, Samba near Vijaypur celebrated the day by organizing Bal-Mela, which was declared open by Hiralal Abrol and Savita Abrol. The programme started with the morning assembly in which chairman highlighted the contribution of Chacha Nehru in laying a strong secular foundation of independent India. He exhorted all to strengthen secularism for the unity and the integrity of the country. The SOS Hermann Gmeiner school celebrated children’s day with great fervor and enthusiasm. On this occasion various colourful items like group dance, solo dance, poet recitation were displayed by the students. Different types of races, tug of war, tunnel Ball, Balloon game, Dodging ball and other sports events were also held. The special attraction of the day was the skits and plays on the child rights. Skits were also performed by the students to highlight Nehru Ji’s love for children. Earlier Principal Mohammad Ayyub along with head boy and head girl and little kids garlanded the portrait of Pandit Nehru. To mark the children day a function was organized by government girl higher secondary school, Bakshi Nagar where Surinder Singh Shingari was the chief guest at the function. On the occasion the students of the school presented an impressive cultural function displaying their talent. Speaking on the occasion Singari appreciated the effort of the school management to celebrate the day by means of their talent. He said that children are the future of the nation so the elder society should be sensitive and responsible towards the all around development of the children. The Youth Movement For Peace (YMP) celebrated children’s day at government primary school, Sohanjana. The students of the school neither have proper clothes to cover their body nor do they have sleepers to wear during chilling winter. They do not have the basic requirements like notebooks, pencils, etc. which are the most important thing for their education. Meanwhile Oriental Academy School too celebrated the Children day by organizing rangoli competition at the school premises. The students participated in the competition and made rangoli of different designs. A cultural function was also organized on the occasion. BIG 92.7 FM Station, celebrated Children’s Day with the kids of SOS orphanage in the BIG Studios. The celebrations marked a lot of songs and party in the studios. BIG RJs played games with the children and celebrated the special day. The children were seen enthusiastic to be on air with the BIG RJs. Commandant of 72 Battalion also interacted with the children and shared some of the exciting experiences of army life. In addition to this 4 kids of the city got the chance to co- host the show with Big FM RJ Rahul , RJ Ranjana , RJ Shaveta and RJ Manas. Speaking on the occasion, Siddharth Arora, Cluster Head, J&K said “Children’s Day is a time when all the kids around the country wish to feel special in some or the other way. Giving them the authority to talk about their lives and experiences will inculcate confidence. SOS kids had a quality time with the RJs in the studios and listened to their favourite music. We have always tried to make lives better and children are special to us. We wish such interactions will help the children explore their hidden talents.” To celebrate the birth anniversary of first Prime Minister of free India Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru an impressive function was organized in Rajiv Gandhi Memorial College of Education here today. A series of programs including Rangoli, Flower arrangement, Poster making, Painting and Quiz competition marked the Children’s Day in which large number of students participated with great enthusiasm. A well known social worker S.D Singh, who was the chief guest at the function, enlightened the students about the great contribution of the Pt. Nehru in the development of the country. He said he had a great love for the children so he is known as ‘Chacha Nehru. The chairperson Anu Dogra, Secretary Pankaj Dogra and Principal Dr G.P Sachdev also spoke on the occasion and said Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru played great and memorable role to free the country from the clutches of the foreign rules. They said that Chacha Nehru was a great freedom fighter, historian, writer and a planner with a great vision, architect of education policy, lover of books and nature.
