| SAD demands minority status for ‘Sikh’ community | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 15: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have urged upon the state government to grant minority status to the entire Sikh community living in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. In a memorandum submitted to the government says that Sikhs of J&K live under fear psychosis mainly due to the ignorance on the part of government, which has resulted into gradual decrease in Sikh population in the state. Beside this state government has not given any recognition to the birthday of Guru Teg Bahadur who sacrificed his life to save innocent persons from brutal killing of rulers of the day. SAD said, no Sikh has been appointed minister in the cabinet due to the non-inclusion of Sikhs in the minority status. Memorandum further says that educated Sikh youth are jobless, as they have not been accommodated in government or public sector. In addition to this conspiracies are going on to weaken the Sikh community economically as Sharnarthi land have been acquired by the government. It is the moral duty of state government to rehabilitate Sikhs on the basis of minority status but on the other hand some of politicians are dividing us on the basis of caste and areas like Poonch, Muzaffarbadi, Mirpuri and kashmiri simply to divert attention from genuine demands and development, such types of evils are not even harmful to Sikh community but also to the entire country the release added.
