| Reviving Dogra identity | | Join former Minister Charak’s turban competition, win prizes | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 15- Expressing concern over the threat to the Dogra identity, its culture and heritage, Dogra Sadar Sabha Jammu and Kashmir has stressed to restore and preserve the Dogra identity. Talking to media persons here today, former Minister and President Dogra Sadar Sabha said that Sabha has organized its Central working committee meet with regard to the preservation of culture and heritage of Dogras. He further said that central working committee welcomed the announcement of the government for inclusion of 5 more historical monuments viz Laddan Fort (Chenani), Jaganoo Fort (Udhampur), Mansar Haveli (Samba), Seikh Ibrahim Tomb (Aafakadal) and Miniature Tomb (Buchpora) in the list of protected monuments of the state. He appealed to the government to declare all the other remaining such historical places/buildings/forts also as protected monuments. He said the working committee also appreciated the efforts of the Government for organizing the ‘Jammu Festival’ during the years 2007 and 2008 in a befitting manner continuously for 7 days and 15 days respectively which promoted local talent and showcased Dogras’ rich culture and tradition. Charak appealed to the Chief Minister to call the meeting of all the concerned departments and social and religious organizations of this province for starting preparation for the ensuing Festival well in time. Charak mentioned that over the years, the Dogras particularly the youth do not adore the ‘Dogra Pagri’ perhaps not knowing how to tie a good Dogra Turban. He announced that to revive the old practice of putting turban on all ceremonial occasions and to improve the standard of tying Dogra Turban by the Dogras, the Dogra Sadar Sabha has decided to hold a competition of tying the ‘Dogra Turban’ on Sunday 3rd January 2010 at Dogra Sadar Sabha Bhawan and there will be prizes for showing the skill at tying the turban included First Prize of Rs 5000, Second Prize of Rs 3000 and Consolation Prize Rs 1000 and Special Prize for the youths below 35 years of age. The DSS Central Working Committee appealed to all the Sabhas, Sansthas and Institutions to encourage their members to participate in the competition.
