| RGPRS organizes ‘Panchyat Raj’ awareness meeting | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur Nov 16: J&K Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan (J&K RGPRS) held its meeting at Udhampur today under the Chairmanship of Krishan Chander Bhagat-MLA.
Yash Pal Khajuria-Ex-Minister, Vice President PCC and Chairman, J&K Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan was the Chief Guest on this occasion.
Speaking on the occasion chief guest Yash Pal Khajuria demanded holding of early election to the Panchayats of the state and said that Panchayats are the basic institution of democracy and it should be strengthen in a befitting manner.
‘Panchayat elections are over due in Jammu and Kashmir and these should be held soon, he said and demanded more powers to the Panchayats at the same time.
Khajuria explained in detail objectives of the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan (RGPRS) and said that membership drive for the Sangathan has already been started and this programme will continue in all parts of the state. He disclosed that Manishankar Aiyar-former Union Minister and Chairman, Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan (RGPRS) will be visiting the state in next month to take stock of the Sangathan.
He also asked the RGPRS functionaries to chose honest and dedicated persons for the candidature of Panchayat elections of there respective areas.
Other congress leaders also spoke on this occasion and highlighted the significance of the panchayats in the democratic sets up.
