| Jammu group asks for seat at talks table | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 16- The newly formed Jammu Bachao Andolan (JBA) has demanded that Jammu region be fully associated with the contemplated dialogue process to address the internal and external dimensions of the Kashmir imbroglio. Addressing the maiden press conference here today, the Convener JBA, Wg Cdr GL. Sharma (Retd.) lamented that Jammu region has remained neglected in all spheres of life for the past six decades and this state of affairs cannot be allowed to continue further. He pleaded that the contours of the dialogue process be made public and the Jammu region also be taken into confidence as the people are becoming increasingly apprehensive about the ‘quiet diplomacy’. The Convener urged the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh to lay the foundation stone of the Jammu Central University so that this institution of higher learning starts functioning at the earliest. He demanded that Vice Chancellor of this university be appointed forthwith and the process for selection of faculty members and other staff set in motion immediately, as has been done in the case of the Central University for Kashmir. Sharma also pleaded for reopening of the Ayurvedic College in Jammu, which was closed down some decades back without any rhyme and reason. He also described ban on pre-paid mobiles as not in the interest of the poorer sections of the society. He also emphasized for appropriately addressing the demands of striking SRTC employees as well as other sections of salaried class and the pensioners. Among those present at the media conference were D S Jamwal, Sikander Khan, Giani Avtar Singh, Neena Mishra and Gp Capt Pawan Kumar.
