| MLA protests against taking over of road by Army | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 16 -Jugal Kishore Sharma, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Nagrota constituency, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner, Jammu M.K. Diwvedi and other senior officials of PWD visited Ban to take stock of the problems being faced by a population of over 6000 of Ban, Panj Garayeen and Seri villages following restrictions imposed by the Army on the road leading to these villages. Sharma, while briefing the Deputy Commissioner on the situation, said that the PWD road from Ban to Seri, constructed on private land, has been illegally encroached by the army which has erected barriers and fixed gate on it. While the people are harassed on the name of security whenever they have to travel during the day time and a curfew like situation prevails between 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily when no movement is allowed as the gate is locked for this period. Not only this, any person traveling in private vehicle or carrying house-hold items is subjected to misbehavior. Even the patients, school going children and women are not spared. He urged the DC to get the road freed from the illegal occupation of army so that the people are not made to suffer any more. The DC while terming the action of the army as illegal assured that he will personally take up the matter with the GOC, besides raising the issue in the Army- Civilian liaison meeting and ensured that the barriers and the gate will be removed at the earliest.
