The deceased DIG joined three days ago of the incident after re-leaving his predecessor DIG BSF Jammu zone Ashok Kumar.

Forward outposts of 59 battalion of BSF in Ramgarh area of Samba last night came under heavy firing from Pakistan side, possibly to facilitate infiltration of armed militants into this side of the international borders (IB), official sources said. Officials maintained that the militants had taken cover of firing to damage border fences and planted an IED, possibility of successful infiltration from across the border cannot be ruled out, they stated.

Security forces, including Army and police, have tightened vigil in the border districts of Samba and Kathua.

Several special check points have been established on the Jammu-Pathankot national highway, sources said, adding security forces were conducting search operation in the area. Pertinent to mention here that a year ago militants were infiltrated into the same post and stormed in the Samba area in which various lives were lost. The militants three in numbers were eliminated by security forces after 8 hours long encounter.

Meanwhile, two soldiers of the Indian Army and two militants were killed in separate gunfights in Jammu and Kashmir Monday, officials. ‘Some militants made an infiltration bid into the Kashmir Valley in the north Keran sector of the Line of Control (LOC) late Sunday when soldiers challenged them, an army spokesman said.

One terrorist has so far been killed in this ongoing encounter while two jawans of the army also got killed, he said. ‘The group of terrorists tried to sneak into our side of the LOC but were immediately challenged," the spokesman said.

Meanwhile in another counter insurgency operation one district commander of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed while his other accomplice is still firing at the cordoning security men in south Kashmir's Pulwama district.
