| Widening roads: over 70% land acquisition complete | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 17 : Jammu and Kashmir Government has completed nearly 70 per cent of the acquisition of land for widening of National Highway roads.
The authorities have taken up massive road widening of National Highways for smooth and accident free traffic movement in the Kashmir division, official sources said here today.
They said this information was given to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at a meeting by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir.
He was informed that widening of the National Highway roads is in progress and nearly 70 per cent of the acquisition of land have been completed.
Sources said that Border Roads Organistion (BRO) officials said that they are alert on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu National Highway to meet any challenge of snowfall and landslides.
We have taken all necessary measures so that traffic does not remain closed during snowfall, the officials said adding that the action plan has been made in such a manner that snow will be cleared on the life line to Kashmir valley by utilisation of all modern machinery.
Sources aid that Mr Omar emphasised that during rain or snowfall all measures should be taken so that roads does not remain submerged under water.
Special arrangements should be made to modernize sewerage system in the city, he directed the officials.
However, he was informed that 58 pumps of municipal corporation are ready for pumping out of water in such situation and mobile pumps are also available besides multi-crore several projects are in progress to overcome the problem. |
