| President Patil wishes for early peace in Jammu and Kashmir | | | New Delhi, Nov 17 : President Pratibha Devisingh Patil today wished for early restoration of peace in 'trouble-torn' Jammu and Kashmir for ensuring fast-track development there.
''I wish for early restoration of peace in J&K so that it can be brought on the track of socio-economic development,'' Ms Patil said.
Interacting with a group of 35 students of Kupwara and Shopian districts of Jammu and Kashmir at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, she said, ''The Army is serving the nation with courage while being away from their families. Their courage has set a benchmark for other citizens to follow.'' ''I laud the efforts of the Indian Army in maintaining the sanctity of the borders. Its efforts in maintaining communal harmony in the country needs to be lauded,'' the President said.
Ms Patil further appreciated the people-friendly developmental activities undertaken by the Army under 'Operation Sadbhavana' and said it would go a long way in helping the Valley people and bringing them on the track of development.
15-year-old Ishrat Jahan, a standard X student at the Army Goodwill School in Shopian, said, ''I am highly motivated after interating with madam (Ms Patil). The Army's Operation Sadhbhavna has come a long way in improving our lives.
Today, I only wish for peace in the Valley, that is what is lacking there.'' Aiman (15), a class eight student of RAP Vihar Public School in Kashmir, said, ''The Kashmir Valley, often known as Paradise on Earth, is famous for its beautiful mountainous landscape. Jammu's numerous shrines attract tens of thousands of Hindu and Muslim pilgrims every year. Ladakh, also known as Little Tibet, is renowned for its remote mountain beauty and Buddhist culture...J&K excels in beauty...what it only needs is progress, with which I mean early restoration of peace, better rail connectivity and round the clock power facility.'' |
