DC finalizes Diwali, Id arrangements

JAMMU, OCTOBER 04 -Preparation for the ensuing festivals of Diwali and Id-ul-Fitr were discussed and finalized at a high level meeting of senior officers convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Jammu Mr Hirdesh Kumar Singh here this morning.
Dwelling on the arrangements being made to ensure peaceful celebrations, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with the officers of various departments to take stock and finalize the preparation made by them. He emphasized upon maintaining close liaison among each other to ensure better facilities to people.
It was apprised that four spots have been finalized for setting up cracker stalls. These include Parade Ground where 20 wholesale and 80 retail stalls would be set up, Paloura, Dussehra Ground Apsara road, and one at Model School Satwari.
A joint inspection of these stalls would be conducted by police, fire services and security agencies. He said ban has already been imposed on high sound crackers creating noise pollution.
Regarding selection of people interested in setting up cracker stalls at four spots, the Mr Singh said that they would be selected through draw of lots by Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu Mr B. S Jamwal and Joint Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation at Jammu Municipality Town Hall.
To check hike in the prices of mutton in view of forthcoming Id festival, the DC constituted a committee comprising of officers from CAPD, W&M, Health and labour to fix rate prior to the festival. Four inspection squads have also been constituted to conduct random inspections to check rates.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the PDD and PHE departments to ensure uninterrupted supply during festivals. Other arrangements of barricading, health and sanitation were also finalized in the meeting.
Among others Additional Deputy Commissioners Jammu Mr B. S Jamwal, Mr I. A Zargar, Executive Engineers M&RE, SE PHE Mr V. K Puri and officers of various departments were present on the occasion.
