| PCB asked to expedite clearances | | | RECENT CONSENTS Red: 800 Orange: 1250 Green: 950 Jammu, Nov 18: To facilitate fast processing of no-objection certificates for the entrepreneurs, the government has decided to fill up the vacant posts in Pollution Control Board within two months. This was given to understand by the Minister for Forests Mian Altaf Ahmed in high level meeting of State Pollution Control Board here today. The Minister, however, called for strict enforcement of various environmental laws to conserve environment from hazards of water, air and bio-medical waste pollution. He also urged for time-bound disposal of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to various upcoming Industrial Units without compromising on pollution control norms, adding that maximum time for issuing such NOCs should be 21 days to enable the entrepreneurs to set up their units. He said any kind of lapse in this regard would not be tolerated. He also directed for making the system of NOCs provision transparent and accountable. While reviewing the achievements of the State Pollution Control Board, the Minister was informed that 3000 consent cases have been recommended under red, orange and green category during the past seven months in the State. Of these, 800 cases were recommended under red category, 1250 orange category whereas 950 consents have been granted under green category. It was informed that during anti-polythene drive, launched by the Board, 105 quintals of polythene have been seized in the State so far during the current financial year. The Minister issued instructions officers, posted in the districts, not to leave the headquarter without prior permission of higher authorities. The Minister said that all the vacancies in the Board would be filled up within two months to give fresh teeth to this law enforcement agency. He also issued instructions for clearing all Departmental Promotion Cases immediately, adding that it would boost the moral of the employees of the Board. The Minister also visited air and water pollution checking labs set up in the office premises of the Board. The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary, Forests, Mr. Shant Manu, Chairman State Pollution Control Board, Mr. Vinod Ranjan, Member Secretary, State Pollution Control Board, Mr. Mohit Geva, Regional Directors, Jammu and Kashmir Mr. B. M. Sharma and Mian Javaid Hussain, all district officers and scientists.
