| 5 from J&K among 50 , Indian Haj pilgrims die | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Nov 18: With the death of one each pilgrim from Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh, the death toll from the country during this year's Haj pilgrimage in the holy cities of Makkah and Madina has reached 50, reports said here today. More than 1.25 lakh pilgrims from India, including about 8,000 from Jammu and Kashmir, had gone to undertake the pilgrimage this year.
The reports said 67-year-old pilgrim Mohammad Hussan Khan died due to cardio respiratory arrest at Makkah.
So far, five pilgrims from the state have died due to heart attack and road accidents since October 20, when the first flight from India landed at Jeddah.
With the death of Sagir Ahmad due to heart attack, the death toll of pilgrims from UP has reached 17, highest from any Indian state.
This was followed by five pilgrims each from Bihar and J&K, Tamil Nadu four, Gujarat, West Bengal and Jharkhand three each, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh two each and Rajasthan and Punjab one each.
The pilgrims have died mostly due to heart attack while few of them were killed in road accidents.
