Jammu, Nov 18: It was a wafer thin margin but the victory was historic in sense –the Amar Singh Club today elected its first ever woman secretary, setting a gender trend of the sorts at capital’s elite socializing hub.

Manjeet Manocha was elected first women secretary of the club for which elections were held here today.

She received seven votes, against her nearest rival Sidharth Sharma who got only six votes out of 15 votes. One member didn’t cast his vote and the other vote was found invalid. So out of thirteen votes, the winner stole the show with a narrow margin of one vote.

The tenure of the secretary is for two years. It is pertinent to mention that the election for the post of secretary Amar Singh Club has been held after a gap of ten months.

Manocha on the occasion said that she had old association with the club as her father was the founder member of the club. She on the occasion hailed the services of ex-secretaries which include HS Anand, Sidharth Sharma, and Vinod Sharma. She further said that she will try her utmost to do justice with the club people.

In the year 1973 she joined the club and has started coming on regular basis. That time it was very difficult for the women folk to come out of the houses and join clubs. It is because of the co operation and the support of the family and particularly my father inspire me to join the club. The elections were held under the supervision of club’s vice president, Anil Goswami.
