| Awareness session on Biotechnology as a career held | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 19: A day long awareness session on “Biotechnology as career” was held at Dogra Higher Secondary School, Shastri Nagar here today. The programme was organized by Employment information Cum Advisory Burean, (Centre for Adult Continuing Education & Extension), Univeristy of Jammu. More than 115 students from standard XII participated in the programme. The aim of the interactive session was to apprise the students about “Biotechnology as a Career” its meaning study and training, scope and employment avenues to enhance student’s knowledge on upcoming streams. Head Department of Biotechnology, Prof. Menoj Kumar Dhar apprised the students about the historic origin of biotechnology, he explained the meaning of biotechnology and also shared how biotechnology evolved as an interdisciplinary area, while interacting with the students he highlighted the study and training procedure to tender this filed and said that if could be pursued as a career after 10+2 or after graduation with science subjects. He exhorted that Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi, conducted the Combined Biotechnology Entrance Examination for admission to M.Sc (Biotechnology)/M.Sc Agri/M.V. Sc (Biotechnology)/M.Tech (Biotechnology) programmes biotechnology in various filed and highlighted the job prospects in biotechnology. Principal of School Gambhir Dev Singh Charak in his welcome address encouraged students to opt for unconventional careers and exhorted that career awareness programmes are the need of the hour and students need to be guided from time to time. Rewa Khajuria Counsellor, EIAB, University of Jammu, Apprised the students on the working of the Bureau. Sita Anand, Liaison Officer, Centre for Adult Continuing Education & Extension of university coordinated the programme and highlighted the objectives of the programme.
