Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 19: The All J&K Kissan Union has demanded immediate supply of seeds, fertilizers and other agricultural inputs to enable the farmers to sow rabi crops well in time.
As per press Chairman of the Kissan Union and former legislator, Ashok Sharma said that the kharief crops in most part of the Jammu region had failed due to long dry spell and drought, adding that if the Agriculture Department is unable to supply seeds and fertilizers timely they will not be able to sow their next crop as well. He said that the farmers of several areas are agitation over this issue since long.
Sharma pleaded that instead of three months, the government should provide six months’ free ration and cash compensation in full to the farmers who suffered damage. He suggested for launching of crop and cattle insurance across Jammu and Kashmir to compensate the damages suffered by the farmers to their crop and livestock for which the premium should be borne by the government.
