| Army to dedicate “Balidaan Stambh’ to people of state | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 19 The army will be dedicating a War Memorial to the people of the state of J&K, a unique memorial constructed at Bahu WAli Rakh in Jammu by the Indian Army on Nov 24 in a formal dedication ceremony and by paying homage to the martyrs. Defence spokepsron Lt Col Biplabh Nath said that since independence, the State of J&K has witnessed and borne the brunt of all wars fought by our country. Besides J&K itself having a history extraordinary valour, courage and supreme sacrifices on the other hand Indian Armed Forces, Police and Para Military Forces have displayed unparalleled heroism, in all these wars and in doing so, many have made the supreme sacrifice with their lives, attaining martyrdom in the scared soil of J&K. Thus the Indian Army has taken up the initiative to construct a war memorial, called Balidan Sthambh i.e. “Tower of Sacrifice” at Jammu. ‘The Balidan Sthambh comprises an imposing 60m high tower with an external flame at its base, surrounded by layers of water bodies. The tower is encircled on one side by an inscription wall wherein battle accounts of each war fought in J&K have been inscribed. The tower is encircled on the other side by 52 Memorial Pillars wherein the names of martyrs of the Armed Forces, Police and Para Military Forces have been inscribed, Musical fountains, pathways and landscaped gardens add to the ambience and beauty of this memorial, Lt Col Nath said. The “Balidan Sthambh” immortalizes the sacrifices of martyrs from all States of the Indian Union in War since 1947, thereby promoting national integration and an immortal link with people of J&K.
