| Defence spokesman denies construction of road on private land in Ban | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 19- A Defence spokesman has contradicted the news item that the Army has constructed road on a private land in village Ban as was alleged by MLA. The spokesman clarified that the road from NH 1A in Nagrota leading to village Ban has been constructed on the requisitioned Defence Land and the contention that the road is on private land is, therefore false and incorrect. This road of approximately 1.5 Km to village Ban runs hugging a highly sensitive Defence installation which falls within the high security zone which has been duly notified by Ministry of Defence through a Notification dated 20 Sep 2002. The above sensitive Defence installation requires high security and strict vigil round the clock to ensure that no unauthorized person gets access to it. During the day no restrictions are imposed on the movement, however use of the road is allowed only after establishing the identity of individuals during the hours of darkness. Utmost care is taken by Army personnel during the security checks at night and the system is working well with no complaint from the locals so far on this account. Hence the allegation of harassment and misbehavior of the locals by Army personnel as alleged in the news item is baseless, mischievous and motivated, the spokesman added.
