| Kavinder lays foundation stone for installation of Dr. Mookherji’s statue | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 19- JMC Mayor Kavinder Gupta, accompanied by JMC Executive Engineer Sunil Kohli and AEE Gopal Sharma, today laid foundation stone for installation of statue of late Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherji at Ambphalla in presence of a number of political and social figures of the Jammu city. Kavinder Gupta, while speaking on this occasion, said that it is a matter of pride for him to be part of a noble work being undertaken in memory of a man who was an institution in himself and a true nationalist. He said Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherji holds very high place in the hearts of the nationalist people of our state as he was the person, who although did not belong to J&K but sacrificed his life while fighting for its full integration with the rest of India. Dr. Mookherji, who was National President of Jana Sangh and Leader of Opposition Group in Lok Sabha, was pained to see that the Jammu and Kashmir State had Permit system, under which any one entering the State or going out, had to obtain a permit. Dr. Mookherji was against such a practice. He was of the opinion that any person living in any part of the country was free to visit any place without any restrictions. Leader of 1952-53 historical Praja Parishad agitation, Dr. Mookherji stood for ‘Ek Vidhan-Ek Nishaan-Ek Pradhan’ in the state like other states of the country. There existed two Flags, two Constitutions and separate Post of Prime Minister in the state. To register protest against this, Dr. Mookherji entered the State at Lakhanpur without permit and was arrested. He was taken to Srinagar where he died under mysterious circumstances in detention. BJP MLA Jagdish Raj Sapolia, Press Secretary Balbir Ram, Corporators Shubh Chander Verma, Balwan Singh, Dinesh Gupta and Narsingh Dass, party activists Praduman Singh, Daleep Kumar, Meera Samral, Kuldeep Kumar, Vijay Sharma, Balbir Singh, Kulbhushan Vohra. Tirath Ram and Sanjeev Kumar were also present on the occasion.
