Addressing media persons here today, Dev Choudhary, president, R S Pura Rice Growers Association said that in the month of April 2009 Chief Minister Omar Abdullah lifted the ban on export of Basmati to other countries/States due to which the Basmati Growers of RS Pura expressed their great joy and got a new ray of hope for their better livelihood but unfortunately all the hopes of growers were dashed to ground due to the monopoly of the Capitalists/Millers. He reminded the Prime Minister, who during his visit to Philippines described the specialty of RS Pura Basmati Rice at International Rice Conference, but in the present times the farmers are avoiding for agriculture activities due to the anti- farmer policies from Central Government where commodities export/import duties are fixed according to the need of Millers/Capitalists. He alleged that Rs 33 crores which was kept for the development of farmers in Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna were not released to Rice growers so far. The Association demanded release of Rs 10,000 per hectic for Basmati Growers through Rashtri Krishi Vikas Yojna in the shape of cash incentives to the medium and small farmers for 2009, besides giving 100% subsidy on seeds and fertilizer in coming season 2010 so that the Basmati growers would not be forced to give up this trade. Chaudhary appealed to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene into the matter personally and invite all the Gulf countries Ambassadors to R S Pura for direct marketing of the Basmati in their countries and give benefit of Rashtri Krishi Vikas Yojna to farmers.
