| Chill sets over Valley as mercury dips to minus 2.1 | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, NOV 19: It was the coldest night of the season so far in the summer capital, Srinagar, where the minimum temperature dipped to minus 2.1 degrees Celsius this morning. Moreover, people in the still higher reaches of Ladakh region continue to shiver as the minimum temperature remains between minus 7 degree to minus 15 degrees. Due to clear sky, the night temperature in the Kashmir valley was below normal, resulting in severe cold. However, world famous tourist resort of Pahalgam, in south Kashmir and base camp for travel to holy Amarnath cave was coldest after the minimum temperature dipped to minus 5.8 degree followed by Kupwara minus 4.6 degrees, Qazigund minus 2.5 degrees. Official sources said in the absence of Western Disturbances (WD) from Arabian Sea, which comes through Afghanistan and Pakistan, the sky remained clear. They said the open sky resulted in drop in the temperature and biting chill. People in Ladakh region continue to shiver. The minimum temperature was recorded between minus seven degrees to minus 15 degrees in Leh, Kargil, Drass. Ladakh is the second coldest place in the world after Siberia.
