| Sham release six Dogri books | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 2: Six new books written in Dogri language by Puran Chand Bargotra, Sita Ram Sapolia, Sham Dutt Parag and Desh Bandhu ‘Nutan’ were released by the health and floriculture minister Sham Lal Sharma at a function held at Dogri Bhawan here today. Chief Guest Sharma while speaking on the occasion expressed his pleasure at the pace with which dogri language and literature is progressing which is signified by the large number of books released in the function. He said that Dogri is a sweet and rich language which has a rich treasure of folk literature. He expressed his concern regarding the tendency of younger generation to not to speak in their mother tongue and said that to protect, preserve and develop this language we should inspire the younger generation to speak in their mother tongue. He further said that all sections of society should work for the promotion and development of this language. He appreciated the efforts of Dogri sanstha which is working for the last 60 years for enrichment of this language. Dr. OM Goswami, Dogri scholar presented a review of on the works of Sapolia whereas Prof. Veena Gupta, of Dogri Sanstha, spoke in detail about the books of Puran Chand Bargotra, Desh Bandhu ‘Nutan’ and Shyam Dutt Parag. President of Dogri Sanstha Prof. Lalit Magotra while welcoming the audience gave a brief review of the activities of Dogri Sanstha and a made a mention of opportunities and challenges faced by the Dogri language. He said that a fresh thinking is required to devise strategies for making best use of the opportunities and for meeting challenges of modern times. The programme was conducted by Prof. Shashi Pathania, Head, PG Department of Dogri, University of Jammu.
