| Cooperative sector needs diversification: Manohar | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 20: Stating that Co-operatives have played a vital role in the transformation of socio-economic profile of the people, especially farmers, the Minister for Cooperatives, Dr. Manhor Lal Sharma today underlined the need for diversification of this sector. Speaking at the concluding function of the 56th All India Cooperative Week, organized by the Cooperative School of Education and Research Institute Trikuta Nagar, near here, the Minister said that Cooperatives have to play key role in strengthening the economy of the State and called upon the people to render full cooperation to the departmental institutions. Dr. Manohar advised the management of the school to provide quality education and inculcate good habits among the students so that they face the challenges in the changed scenario at global level. Referring to the demands of the management of the school, the Minister assured that due consideration would be given to the viable proposals after due consultation with the Board of Directors and other concerned cooperative unions. Mr. Yogesh Sahani, former Minister complemented the management, staff and students of the school for their tireless efforts in improving the standard of education and requested the Government to provide financial assistance to the school for its further development. Dr. Manohar announced Rs 5000 as refreshment charges for the students, who excelled in the cultural programme presented on the occasion. He also distributed consolation prizes among the students for their scintillating performance. Earlier, Principal of the school, provided a brief profile and achievements of the school during the past few years. A large number of students, parents besides, management, staff, Board of Directors of the cooperatives were present on the occasion.
Later, the Minister also addressed a meeting of officers of Directorate of Economic and Statistics and lauded the role of the department for effective plan delivery and sustainable development of the State. He emphasized the need for capacity development of the planning /Statistical staff with a view to increase their efficiency and professional competence for sound and rational planning. He appreciated the initiatives taken by the department in strengthening the statistical database of the State and analyzing the growth and development performance of the J&K Economy. He assured that the State Government will provide all the requisite support and assistance for strengthening the Statistical system in the State. The Minister also assured of considering the proposal of re-organization of the department.
