Poonch brigade celebrates Poonch Link up Day

Poonch Nov 20: Poonch brigade today celebrated ‘Poonch Link up Day with characteristic gaiety and fervour to commemorate the historic link carried out by Brig Pritam Singh’s forces and troops from Rajouri at Danna Ka Pir on 20 Nov 1948, said spokesperson of the Media Branch 16 Corps.
Army spokesperson said that Commander Poonch Brigade in addition to various civilian dignitaries and prominent citizens of Poonch town participated in the celebrations which comprised of number of events.
The celebrations started today with the wreath laying ceremony at the war memorial, the Naman Sthal. Commander Poonch Brigade and other senior officers laid wreath and remembered the contribution of each soldier who made the supreme sacrifice defending Punch.
Meanwhile the chief guest Commander Poonch Brigade inaugurated an artificial limb fitment camp under Operation Sadbhavna. Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest appreciated the efforts of Sadbhavna and Pritam Spiritual Trust for this noble cause in which hundreds of people are provided with artificial limbs who have suffered due to cross LC firing, mine accidents and terrorist actions. He also flagged off ‘Sadbhavna on wheels’ to distribute stationery and sports kit to children of various schools of Poonch and near by areas to promote civil army relations.
Tape Yajo Sainik Institute dedicated to Naik Tape Yajo, the brave soldier who made the supreme sacrifice while fighting the triblal invaders in the Kalas Jungles in Sep 1948 and for this heroic deed he was awarded Kirti Chakra (Posthumously) was also inaugurated today.
The Main event of the day was a Mini Tatto show organized at Advance Landing Ground Punch. This event show cased the horsemanship skills of Army riders, specialized skills of Army Dogs, Para Sailing display, a playlet on Punch Siege by school children and a breath taking display by Pipe Bands.
‘Poonch has been the leading example of the military-civil jointmanship which is a legacy started by non other than Brig Pritam Singh, MC who is very aptly called as the ‘Saviour of Poonch’, he added
