| Soz to lead goodwill Haj delegation | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, NOV 20: In a deviation from past convention, Jammu and Kashmir state Congress chief Saifuddin Soz has been nominated as leader of Indian goodwill Haj delegation to Mecca this year.
"Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has nominated Soz as leader of the goodwill delegation for Haj this year. He will lead a 20-member delegation for the pilgrimage tomorrow to Saudi Arabia," a spokesman of JKPCC told PTI here.
The Prime Minister has made a deviation this year from the convention as leader of the delegation is always chosen from among the Governors or Union Cabinet Ministers, the spokesman said.
The delegation includes opposition PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, Jammu and Kashmir High Court judge Nissar Ahmad Kakroo, and State Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir.
Soz had been nominated leader of the delegation last year also, but he could not undertake the pilgrimage due to elections in the state.
