| Kisgenganga project workers on strike | | Tarigami calls for sustained struggle | | Early Times Report Srinagar Nov 21- A massive rally was today held at Bandipore, by the workers of Kishan Ganaga Hydro Electric Project, (KGHEP) under the auspicious of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU). The workers were demanding local recruitment in the ongoing hydro electric project, implementation of labour laws and enhancement of minimum daily wages of workers/labourers.
In a statement issued here today, the State President CITU, M Y Tarigami has urged the government to take immediate steps for resolving the issues of workers of Kishan Ganaga Hydro Electric Project.
Tarigami said that the scenario in our State during this intervening period witnessed united struggles of workers/employees throughout the State for betterment in their living conditions, adding that the workers are learning through their experience that it is through united struggles that they can combat the atrocious attack on their basic labour rights by the employers - administration combine.
Tarigami urged that the working class movement must take vigorous initiative to mobilize all sections of people in the society and must not remain just within the confine of unions in the resistance struggle against the retrograde economic policies as well as against the divisive forces and trends of all hues. It has to take the lead in drawing within the fold of united movement all sections of mass and class organizations, he added.
