Kashmir is political issue, not economic: Sagar

Srinagar, Nov 21:-Assuring that National Conference will play pivotal role in settlement of Kashmir issue, the Minister for Rural Development, Law and Parliamentary Affairs said that the party has always played a positive role for settlement of various vexed problems and always pleaded the cause of Kashmiri people before various fora.

The minister was addressing a public gathering at Hygam village of Baramulla district after taking a review cum public darbar meeting at the district. The minister was accompanied by the Minister of State for Roads and Buildings Mr. Javid Ahmed Dar, MLA Sopore Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Ganaie and senior leaders of the party.

Referring to the recent statement of the Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullaha Mr Sagar said that we believe that Kashmir is not an economic problem but a political one, which can be resolved through the process of dialogue between various parties . He said that we have to take concrete measures to address this issue and in this regard National Conference will play role of facilitator.

Mr. Sagar said that it is recorded history that National Conference has always resorted to people friendly measures so that the people of the state do not suffer viz-a-viz political, economical and developmental aspect. He said that it was due to tireless efforts of the late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah that the lot of people living in even rural and far flung areas got economically lifted due to the historical Act of land to the tiller which in a way paved way for the upliftment of the land tillers who were otherwise subjected to inhuman and exploitative treatment by the big land holders.

The Minister while taking a review cum public darbar at Baramulla was informed that an amount of Rs. 75.34 crore have been earmarked for various developmental schemes in the district out of which an amount of 19 crore has been spent till date. The meeting was last in the series of meetings in all the district headquarter of Kashmir division in which the Minister got a first hand information about the problems being faced by the people during the winter months and also the status of various developmental schemes being undertaken by the Government.

It was attended by Minister of State R&B Mr. Javiad Ahmed Dar, Mr. Basharat Bukhari MLA Sangrama, Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Ganaie MLA Sopore, District Development Commissioner Baramulla, senior officers of the various departments like PHE, PDD, Irrigation, CAPD, Forest, Health, Education and scores of deputations from various areas of the district.
