| JK Police committed to promotion of sports: Khoda | | 10th All India Police Lawn Tennis Ch’ship from tomorrow | | Early Times Report Jammu, November 21- Jammu and Kashmir Police is hosting 10th All India Police Lawn Tennis Championship in Jammu from November 23, 2009 at various venues in the city of temples under the banner of All India Police Sports Control Board, New Delhi.
Giving details of the championship at a press conference here this evening, the Director General of Police, Mr. Kuldeep Khoda said that 5-days championship will be inaugurated at Gulshan Ground, Jammu on November 23, and will conclude on November 27. He said that the championship would be played at different venues viz. Gulshan Ground, District Police Lines, Jammu University, BSF Paloura, CRPF Bantalab, Usman Club, G.G.M. Science College, Police G.Os Mess and M. A. M. Stadium.
The Director General of Police said that the Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing sports activities in each and every corner of the State for the promotion of sports. He said that presently Jammu and Kashmir Police has 16 Central Sports Teams including two women boxing and Archery Teams. 14 teams are participating every year in All India Police Games, allotted by All India Police Sports Control Board.
Khoda said that our players have shown good performance in various sports activities especially in Water Sports, Hockey, Handball, Wrestling and Boxing during last All India Police Games and the State Police has also produced some international players like Kuldeep Handoo, Vivek Khajuria, Zahoor Ahmed, Mohammad Shafi Nari and Khurshid Baba, who brought laurels for the State at international level in various championship, adding that the State Police Water Sports and Boxing teams also represented All India Police Sports Control Board under the banner of Indian Police in Senior National Water Sports Women Boxing Championships had brought laurels for All India Police Sports Control Board by winning silver and bronze medals in water sports.
The Director General of Police further that said Jammu and Kashmir Police is accelerating the adventure sports vigorously, Sub-Inspector Ram Singh has scaled world’s highest peak “Mount Everest” during 2008 in collaboration with Indian Mountaineering Federation. As a prelude to scale “Mount Everest” by the State Police, tough Adventure and Mountaineering Courses are being conducted regularly. Till date J&K Police scaled Stock Kangari in 2005, Nun Peak in 2007 and Kolai Peak during August this year. He further said that recently our Police Football Team lifted trophy of 11th J&K Police Martyrs Memorial Football Tournament held at Srinagar in the month of October this year, after a long period of 8 years, defeating various teams of para-military forces and rival J & K Bank - XI previous championship, Mr. Khoda added.
