760 new road projects worth Rs 1500 Cr coming up

JAMMU, NOV 21: The execution of 20 new roads and bridges projects at an estimated cost of Rs. 45 crore kicked off in Rajouri constituency under various schemes, the foundation of which was laid by Minister for Roads and Buildings, Mr. G.M. Sarori and Minister of State for Power, Forests and CAPD, Mr. Shabir Ahmed Khan; during their two days extensive tour of the district.

The Ministers laid foundation stones of the construction work of R. 5.6 crore Bigunara More-Alal Road, Rs. 1.91 crore Pattian-Atote road, Rs. 4.50 crore Kunda-Kalla-Upper Shadra road, Rs. 2.3 crore Green-Lah road, Rs. 2.64 crore Soura-Batiyan road, R. 2.6 crore Rajouri-Muradpur road, Rs. 1.85 crore Chenani-Bhala bridge, R. 1.30 crore Irwan Khetar bridge, Rs. 1.40 crore Hyatpura bridge and Rs. 2.64 crore Dawian Morh bridge.

The Ministers also laid foundation stones for construction of additional accommodation at Dak Banglow in Manja koot, Thanamandi, Rajouri and Ziariat-Shrief Sain Wali Dad to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.73 crore.

The R&B Minister directed the concerned agencies to utilize full machinery and manpower for timely completion of these projects. He instructed for adopting double shift system besides using quality material for building concrete road network in the area.

The R&B Minister while addressing the public meetings at Manjakot, Thanamandi, Rajouri proper, Kappa Kha and Giameer Mughla said that the state government has received the nod for construction of 760 road projects under PMGSY phase-VII from Centre with a total cost of Rs. 1500 crore. He said necessary directions have been issued to all executing agencies to complete codal formalities for earlier execution of these projects.

The Minister said that 3 pronged strategies would be adopted to settle issues like forest clearances, land acquisition matters and compensation cases for early execution of developmental projects. He said government will issue fresh guidelines in this regard under which Junior Engineer to Chief Engineer concerned would be made accountable.

Mr. Saroori said that 65 new road projects would be executed in Rajouri district under PMGSY at a total cost of Rs. 184 crore thus, adding 225 kms of new road length to the district.

Mr. Shabir Khan in his address assured the people that the government is paying focused attention to uplift the socio-economic scenario of Pahari people. He said a network of roads are being constructed across the state by the liberal financial assistance of UPA government. He said better road connectivity plays a pivotal role in all round development of the society. “In past the people of mountainous areas remained far behind in development process due to lack of road communication. But the situation has now changed and the students of lofty areas are getting their higher education at door steps competing at all levels,” he said.

Mr. Shabir Khan said that Rajouri like other parts of the state is marching fast towards development and prosperity. He said it is due to the efforts of present government that foundation for execution of 20 development projects involving Rs. 45 crore have been initiated in the district.

The Minister said that Rs. 17 crore would be spent for modernization of power scenario in the district under RGGY adding very soon, the mini power projects besides a workshop for repairs of transformer would be set up in the district.

He said being the local representative, he is also pleading for opening of a Women’s College at Rajouri and Degree College at Manjakot adding that he is hopeful that government would consider the demand sympathetically. He stressed upon the district administration to accelerate the pace of development works and work with zeal and dedication for the welfare of the people. He called for organizing awareness camps especially in remote village of the area to sensitize the people about welfare programmes launched by the government for their welfare.
