| DGP pats football team for maintaining winning spree | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 21: The Director General of Police (DGP) today felicitated and encouraged the football team that won a record number of titles in a single year in a simple function held at Gulshan Ground, here. Besides sports material and playing kits, the young footballers were given away cash prize for winning this year’s Martyrs Memorial Football Tournament beating the professional side of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in Srinagar. A new look football team has won as many as five titles this year and remained runners-up in two others competitions held at state and national level. “We have won Mushtaq Memorial trophy, Ishmeet Singh Memorial title, Major Narayan Singh Memorial trophy and Christian Gold Cup Football Tournament in a single year. The team also finished second in other major events of Surender Anand Tournament losing to Pune FC and Senior Division Football League,” coach of the team, Intikhab Alam told SAN. The winning team has a mix of young and experience. “The youngest player in our team is of 14 years of age while a couple of senior players are above 30 years,” informed the coach. Meanwhile, the Director General also honoured the `Dare Devil’ team of the Police for maintaining their class act at different levels. The team also presented cash rewards by the DGP.
